Postural &Movement Analysis
Uses a custom-tailored approach, through select screening methods, to improve body awareness and movement skills. This practice inevitably leads to a stronger connection between the mind and body, creating a more natural and graceful experience of movement and interaction between structures.
Swedish
This style is the foundation for most Western massage work. It consists of long gentle strokes that instill a deep sense of relaxation for the mind and body.
Deep Tissue
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Clients usually report, "hurts so good!"
Keep in mind that mild soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Sports
This technique follows suit to deep tissue, yet
the focus is geared towards injury management. Sports massage can be split into categories based on the athletes/clients needs:
- Pre-event: are very short sessions focusing on warming/stimulating the muscle tissue. Compression, jostling, and vibration are the techniques used. (No Oil or Lotions used)
- Stretching should be left up to the athlete, unless requested.
- Post-event or Warm-down: are brief sessions (20 minutes) focusing on promoting relaxation, reducing muscle soreness, and speeding recovery by flushing out lactic acid build-up and other waste products. Deep effleurage and compression are the best techniques to be used. Stretching, from the therapist, may be risky to a new client so it should be left up to the client to perform directly after the massage. (They know their endpoint).
- Restorative Massage: are average length sessions focusing on repairing muscle tissue. Deep effleurage, compression, cross-fiber friction, trigger-point and stretching are valuable techniques used during this cycle.
On-site Chair Massage
This type of massage is perfect for large groups/office settings. Sessions range from 10 – 30 minute intervals and clients remain fully clothed. (No oil or lotion is used) Focus is typically on upper body; however, lower body issues can be addressed as well. Studies have shown that by implementing an on-site chair massage program into the work environment, employers have noticed a considerable reduction of missed staff time as well as an increase in production and morale. What an affordable way to feel good!
Other modalities that may be apart of your treatment:
Zen Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Chi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit.
Clients remain fully clothed and the session usually takes place on a padded floor. However, it can easily be incorporated in table work.
Polarity
This is another form of energy work, however the pressure/touch (if used) is extremely light. Its foundation is based around polar opposites. Like a battery, our bodies have positive, negative and neutral energy zones. In order for our life force to flow freely, these zones must be in balance and free from blockages. Polarity uses certain mobilized holding/rocking techniques to help increase or decrease the flow of energy by breaking up these blockages bringing balance.
Reflexology
This technique focuses on target reflex zones in the feet, hands and ears. Manipulation of these areas can have direct effects on corresponding structures of the body. Deep digital point work is the primary tool used to help to free energy blocks.
Aromatherapy
Is the use of essential oils that are derived from plants. These oils are used as a comforting tool to aid the mind/body in reducing stress and anxiety enhancing relaxation. In aromatherapy massage, the oils are transported into the body commonly through the skin pores and inhalation. The most noticeable to the participant is through smell.
